Gino Miles’s “Ancient One” is a sculpture of a bison that sits at the entrance of Sugar Hill, easily seen by those traveling route 66. The piece was dedicated in memory of Bruce R. Andrews, a community activist, former city planning commissioner, and longtime Edmond resident. “Ancient One” was purchased through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC) with a private donor/public matching fund program called Art in Public Places. The donor was Barry and Arleather Rice in dedication to his longtime friend. “Ancient One” was the first of three pieces Barry Rice partnered on for the entrance of Sugar Hill; The others are “Flor de la Vida,” and “Settling In”. Rice is a well-known local attorney, former council member and art advocate.
