Arrgh!

by Gary Alsum
Located at Town Square Residence Clubhouse
3550 Bungalow Cove, Edmond, OK 73034, USA
“Arrgh!” exclaims this life-size sculpture of an adventurous pirate. This buccaneer is posed confidently with one foot on top of a piling. He sports all the iconic pirate gear including a captain’s hat, eye patch, parrot, and treasure map. The artist of this piece, Gary Alsum is known for his incredibly detailed bronze sculptures of people. He is known for his serious artworks such as his memorials, but he also creates statues such as these “as a diversion from some of the weightier memorials (he’s) worked on in the past.”  “Arrgh!” was placed in front of the clubhouse at Town Square by McCaleb Homes. This clubhouse has a private pool and pirate ship playground which makes the pirate a perfect piece to represent this area. This sculpture was purchased through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC) with a private donor/public matching fund program called Art in Public Places in partnership with Caleb and Terri McCaleb and Scott and Sally Whipple.
