Zonly Looman’s “Beau the Bicycle Buffalo” is a stunning sculpture at the trailhead of the Integris-Spring Creek Trail along I-35. Depicted is an American Bison (also known as a buffalo) that is made entirely out of repurposed bicycles and scrap metal, all recycled from Edmond. This Bison is powder-coated with an ombre that makes it fade from teal to blue. The base that it sits on was hand-poured concrete meant to resemble an arrowhead. Just like the Buffalo, which represents abundance, peace, and new life to come, “Beau the Bicycle Buffalo” shows the importance and capability of material reuse.
This piece is the first of Looman’s sculptures included in the Edmond public art inventory. Zonly Looman is a primarily self-taught artist who has spent countless hours perfecting his craft. He is influenced heavily by his Kumeyaay and Chumash background. This piece was purchased with one percent Construction Improvement Project (CIP) funding from the Integris/Spring Creek Trail through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC).
