The mural faces the historic Capitol View neighborhood, one of Edmond’s oldest and most historically significant neighborhoods, with roots stretching back to the early 20th century. The area was originally developed between 1917 and 1938 by early Edmond developer Harry W. Clegern, who platted the addition from Second Street south to Ninth Street, bounded by Rankin Avenue on the east and Boulevard on the west.
The building’s owner envisioned a colorful mural with an Oklahoma theme. The design brings that vision to life by incorporating the state mammal, the American bison; colors inspired by the state wildflower, the Indian Blanket; and a visual representation of a view toward the Oklahoma State Capitol.
“Capitol View” was purchased through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC) as part of the City of Edmond’s Art in Public Places program, a private donor/public matching fund partnership, in collaboration with Boulevard Medical Plaza.
