Flight of Dreams

by Stephen Lee, and Brandon Taylor
Located at AC Caplinger Sports Complex
900 South Bryant Avenue, Edmond, OK, USA
"Flight of Dreams" by Stephen Lee and Brandon Taylor is a semi-abstract steel sculpture that combines visual motifs from baseball & softball cards and balloons on strings. The Texas based artist describes this work by saying "baseball cards, without a doubt, is about Americana - family, childhood, friendships, and of course baseball. Secondly if you watched Pixar's "Up", you have felt the warmth and uplifting spirit of the movie, punctuated by the iconic thousand colorful ballons lifting off and soaring across the sky. Stephen Lee and Brandon Taylor, who work together as designer and fabricator tandem, feel these two imageries represent highly appropriate characteristics as a centerpiece for a project such as Edmond's AC Caplinger Ball Fields." This dynamic art installation features a large tower showcasing multiple images of baseball and softball poses, two oversized matching cards creating an interactive selfie station, and an additional 18 cards surrounding the concession stand, bringing a playful celebration of the sports to the entire space at A.C. Caplinger Ball Fields. Purchased with one percent Construction Improvement Project (CIP 1%) funding from the AC Caplinger renovation project through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC).
