Grasshopper (Bronze)

The Uncommon Ground, Edmond, OK, USA
"Grasshopper" a bronze by Marco Oviedo is a bronze sculpture depicting a five-foot-long grasshopper. On his website, Oviedo mentions that he named the piece Don Chapulín. A quick search for the name led to a 1973 Mexican superhero comedy series of the same name—perhaps the inspiration, or simply a fun coincidence.

Selected by the donor for public art, this sculpture reflects memories of growing up in Altus, Oklahoma and is dedicated in loving memory of his parents.

Oviedo Gallery, located in Chimayó, New Mexico—between Santa Fe and Taos—welcomes visitors for tours.

Purchased through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC) with a private/public matching fund program called Art in Public Places in partnership with Randel & Dana Shadid.
