“Justice,” by Jeanine Young, is approximately 45 inches tall and stands in front of the Municipal Court of the City of Edmond. Lady Justice dawns three recognizable features that symbolize how justice should be carried out. “Justice” is seen with a blindfold interpreted as how justice should be applied blindly, without regard to wealth, power, or status. In one hand she holds the scales of justice up high symbolizing the balance between truth and fairness or the balance of the act and the consequences. In the other hand, she holds a sword representing authority and the idea that justice can be swift and final. There are countless sculptures of Lady Justice all over the world, and we are proud to have Jeanine Young’s version in front of our Municipal Court in Edmond. This statue was purchased through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC) with a private donor/public matching fund program called Art in Public Places. The donor was the Edmond Bar Association.
