Masters of Water

"Masters of Water" a stainless and Corten steel sculpture by Brandon Taylor, pays tribute to the courage and service of the Edmond Fire Department. The piece takes the form of a fire hose nozzle, with polished stainless rods rising upward to symbolize powerful streams of water. Though the rods are fixed in place, they create the illusion of shifting, flowing movement as viewers walk around the sculpture, echoing both the force and grace of water in motion.

The work is more than a symbol of firefighting—it carries a deeper message: “Sometimes the greatest act of courage is to ask for help when you need it.” This reminder honors not only the bravery of firefighters who face danger in the line of duty, but also the strength found in community, teamwork, and vulnerability.

The sculpture was commissioned through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC) and funded by the Construction Improvement Project one percent (CIP1%) program as part of the Edmond Fire Station #6 project. It is dedicated in remembrance of Captain Paul Verble, honoring his devoted service to our community from 1990 to 2010.

Brandon Taylor, a Texas-based artist, and owner of 23 Design, a build studio specializing in one-of-a-kind custom pieces, is known for his large-scale public works that often incorporate stainless steel, Corten steel, and other industrial materials. His practice explores the intersection of form, movement, and symbolism—transforming raw materials into meaningful landmarks that engage both passersby and the communities they serve. With Masters of Water, Taylor created not only a striking visual tribute, but also a lasting monument to the resilience, courage, and humanity of Edmond’s firefighters.
