“Puffed Up Prince,” by Gary Lee Price, is a whimsical piece that strays away from his usual style. Most of the time, Price tries to capture the essence of children in the midst of their childhood, but every once in a while, he likes to take a break from tradition and do something different. This piece in particular was inspired by a frog that just so happened to come into Price’s studio while he was working on a different piece. From there, he got the idea for “Puffed Up Prince,” and says that the sole purpose of this sculpture is to delight you. This sculpture was brought to Edmond in 2005 and was Purchased through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC) with a private donor/public matching fund program called Art in Public Places. The donors were Saundra and Frank Naifeh. Saundra Naifeh partnered on the piece while serving as mayor (2001-2007.) Saundra was a champion for the public art ordinances during her time as mayor. She remains an advocate of public art and a dedicated community leader today.
