“Sherlock Holmes” is a life-size sculpture by Jane DeDecker that sits inside Edmond’s Public Safety Center. The fictional character of Sherlock Holmes was created by Arthur Conan Doyle. Holmes is a private detective who is famous for his observational skills, logical reasoning, and proficiency in deduction. He is employed to investigate a variety of different unsolved cases alongside narrator Dr. John Watson, his roommate and partner when investigating.
This particular character was designed for the safety center because he stops crime in its tracks. Interestingly, Holmes is positioned in a way where the item he is looking at through his magnifying glass is the time capsule that is locked behind glass. If it ever gets tampered with before the intended time to open, we know who to turn to solve our case. This piece was purchased with one percent Construction Improvement Project (CIP) funding from the Public Safety Center through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC).
