The Lady, a carved soapstone sculpture dating to the 1920s–1930s and reflecting the Art Nouveau era, was created by an unknown artist. The graceful carving conveys a quiet sense of introspection and timeless elegance.
The piece was generously donated to the City of Edmond’s Art in Public Places Program by Kay and Charles Rule. The Rules were delighted to see 62 acres—once destined for multi-family housing and commercial development—transformed into the Uncommon Ground Sculpture Park. In gratitude and support of this vision, they contributed The Lady, a natural stone base, and a stone bench as lasting symbols of their appreciation.
Today, The Lady holds a special distinction in Edmond’s public art collection: she is considered the oldest piece in the collection, predating the 1938 WPA mural by several years.
