Wiggle Worm (Snake)

Local artist Whitney VanHeuvelen presents a whimsical and vibrant collection of laser-cut wood paintings celebrating the beauty and personality of wildlife. Each artwork is meticulously crafted through layers of precision laser-cut wood, hand-painted details, and dimensional assembly, creating pieces rich with color, texture, movement, and depth.

The collection features playful and expressive animal portraits, including My Head’s in the Clouds (Giraffe), Probably Purring (Tiger), King of Cuddles (Lion), Pink Parade (Flamingo), My Little Baby Bear (Bear), Stomp & Smile (Elephant), Best in Stripes (Zebra), and Handle with Care (Gorilla), all purchased through the Edmond Visual Arts Commission (EVAC) with private donor/public matching funds, partnered with former Mayor Randel and Dana Shadid. The eight pieces were originally displayed at the Fine Arts Institute, where Randel chose to partner the entire collection. Unknown to him, the artist had also created two additional pieces, Water Wiggles (Otter) and Wiggle Worm (Snake). After learning that her entire show had sold out before it officially opened, Whitney generously donated the two additional works to Randel, who in turn donated them to the City’s public art collection.

Through bold colors, layered composition, and charming character, each piece captures the spirit and emotion of its subject while inviting viewers to connect with the wonder of the animal world.
